The drive is about 120 kilometres and takes around 1 hour 40 minutes in normal conditions — Bergamo lies east of Milan, the furthest of the Milan airports from Lugano. We leave Lugano on the A2 motorway, cross into Italy at Chiasso–Brogeda, continue on the A9 past Como and then join the A4 eastbound, skirting Milan toward Bergamo; we allow for traffic on the busy A4. The Swiss–Italian border is part of the everyday journey: we handle the crossing routinely, and the full fixed fare we agree in advance already includes it — there is nothing extra to settle at the frontier.
